New Mexico Cannabis Laws
Legal Age
You must be 21 years of age or older to purchase recreational cannabis in New Mexico. Medical patients must be 18+ with a valid medical cannabis card.
Purchase Limits
Recreational customers may purchase up to 2 ounces of cannabis flower (or equivalent) per transaction. Medical patients may have different limits based on their certification.
Where You Can Consume
Cannabis consumption is legal in private residences and licensed cannabis consumption areas. It is illegal to consume cannabis in public spaces, vehicles, or federal property.
Driving Under the Influence
Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal in New Mexico. Never drive after consuming cannabis. Impaired driving endangers you and others on the road.
Possession Limits
Adults 21+ may possess up to 2 ounces of cannabis in public. At home, you may possess up to 8 ounces. Home cultivation of up to 6 plants per adult (12 per household) is permitted.
Crossing State Lines
It is illegal to transport cannabis across state lines, even into states where cannabis is legal. This includes crossing from New Mexico into Texas or any other state.

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis. CBD (cannabidiol) is non-psychoactive and is used for wellness purposes. Together with other cannabinoids, they create the entourage effect.
